Description
This bottle of Augier Frères Cognac “Soleil” is a rare vintage expression from one of the oldest cognac houses in existence. The house of Augier was founded in 1643, making it the oldest registered cognac producer still known today. Known historically for small-batch production and close ties with European courts, Augier Frères enjoyed a reputation for refined blends and quality eaux-de-vie sourced from the best crus.
The “Soleil” edition is presented in a traditional glass bottle, sealed with light cream wax and secured with wire. The capsule bears the inscription “Fournisseurs Brevetés de S.M. le Roi de Suède”, indicating Augier’s status as a royal warrant holder to the King of Sweden. The front label features a regal illustration of King Louis XIV, often referred to as the “Sun King,” tying directly into the Soleil (Sun) name. The packaging includes its original box, decorated with the same royal motif and emphasizing the historic prestige of the brand.
On the main label, the text highlights Augier Frères & Co., founded in 1856 as a family branch, continuing the centuries-old legacy of the Augier name. Bottled at traditional strength, this cognac reflects the house style: elegant, mature, and marked by the finesse of long-aged eaux-de-vie. The use of classic heraldry and royal imagery on both bottle and packaging underlines Augier’s long-standing reputation as a supplier of fine cognac to European nobility.
This Augier Frères “Soleil” Cognac is today a highly collectible piece, representing not only the craftsmanship of the Augier family but also a link to cognac’s royal history. Complete examples with intact seals and their original presentation boxes, such as this one, are increasingly rare, making them a prized acquisition for collectors of vintage French cognac.
