Description

Bénédictine B&B Liqueur 1960s/70s is a rare vintage bottling from the historic distillery in Fécamp, France, capturing a unique era of French liqueur craftsmanship. Produced by Bénédictine S.A., this edition blends the brand’s world-famous herbal liqueur with fine French brandy, creating a harmonious spirit known simply as “B & B” – short for Bénédictine and Brandy.

The original Bénédictine recipe dates back to the 16th century, developed by Benedictine monks and later rediscovered and perfected in the 19th century. Comprising 27 herbs and spices, it delivers layers of honey, saffron, myrrh, angelica, and aromatic botanicals. In the mid-20th century, Bénédictine S.A. began producing the “B & B” variant, marrying this complex herbal profile with the smooth warmth of aged brandy. Bottled at 43% ABV, the result is a drier, more spirit-forward alternative to the sweeter original liqueur.

This particular 1960s/70s bottling features the classic squat brown glass bottle with cream-and-black labels, embossed gold seal, and the iconic “D.O.M.” emblem – standing for Deo Optimo Maximo (“To God, most good, most great”). The vintage design, along with its well-preserved closure and period typography, makes it highly desirable for collectors of historic spirits packaging.

On the palate, Bénédictine B&B combines the spiced, herbal complexity of Bénédictine with brandy’s rich, oaky depth. Expect notes of cinnamon, honey, citrus peel, and dried herbs, balanced by a gentle warmth on the finish. Best enjoyed neat in a small snifter or over ice to slowly reveal its aromatic layers, this is both a piece of spirits history and a timeless after-dinner drink.

Today, vintage bottles like the Bénédictine B&B Liqueur 1960s/70s are sought after by collectors, enthusiasts of French liqueurs, and lovers of mid-century design. Whether displayed in a vintage spirits cabinet or opened for a special tasting, it remains a testament to enduring French craftsmanship and the art of blending tradition with innovation.
