This is a rare and highly collectible bottling of Black & White blended Scotch whisky, produced by James Buchanan & Co. during the 1940s. A true piece of liquid history, this bottle harks back to a bygone era of Scotch whisky production. James Buchanan, one of the great whisky barons, created his famous blend in the late 19th century. Originally known as "House of Commons," it was colloquially referred to as "that Black & White whisky" due to its distinctive black bottle and white label. The name was officially changed to Black & White in 1902. The iconic black Scottish Terrier and white West Highland Terrier on the label were inspired by Buchanan's visit to a dog show and have become enduring symbols of the brand. This particular edition from the 1940s represents a significant period in the brand's history.

The blend of this era was known for being smooth, light, and fresh, with a touch of peat and sweet oak aromas. At its heart was malt whisky from the Dalwhinnie distillery, providing a gentle and accessible flavor profile that contributed to its widespread popularity. Presented in its classic dark green glass bottle, this vintage release is likely sealed with a spring cap closure, a common feature for this period. Such details are of great interest to collectors, as they help to authenticate and date these historic bottles.

As a pre-1950s bottling, this Black & White Buchanan's is a testament to the enduring legacy of one of Scotch whisky's most famous names. It is a rare opportunity to acquire a whisky that was bottled during a pivotal time in the 20th century, offering a glimpse into the distilling and blending traditions of the past. Its scarcity and historical significance make it a prized addition to any serious collection.

Visual Elements: A small, white strip label is on the neck. The main label is a large, white, slightly curved rectangle on the mid-body. The bottle has "BUCHANAN'S BLACK & WHITE" embossed in block letters on its shoulder. The brand name "BLACK & WHITE" on the main label is prominently displayed in a bold, stylized font, and there is a cursive signature of "James Buchanan."

The neck label uses a serif font. The main label features a mix of serif (for general information), sans-serif (for "BLACK & WHITE" and "BLENDED & BOTTLED BY"), and cursive/script (for the signature "James Buchanan"). The embossed text on the shoulder is in a block/sans-serif style.
