Description
Rémy Martin Grande Champagne Très Vieille “Age Inconnu” is one of the most iconic historic releases from the house of Rémy Martin. Bottled in a 75 cl Baccarat crystal decanter, this expression carries the designation “Très Vieille Age Inconnu” – literally “very old, age unknown.” It is a name that signals a blend of exceptionally mature eaux-de-vie from the Grande Champagne, the Premier Cru of Cognac.
This edition is presented in its original leather-style presentation case with fitted compartments for the decanter and crystal stopper. The bottle is sealed with foil and tricolore ribbon, and accompanied by a card noting its prestige: this same cognac was served at the Royal Banquet for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth at the Château de Versailles on July 21, 1938. That connection to European royalty underlines the stature of the blend.
The Baccarat decanter is richly decorated, with raised fleur-de-lys medallions and an engraved base reading “Made in France by Baccarat – E. Rémy Martin & C°”. The form is inspired by a 16th-century flask found on the battlefield of Jarnac, a design later adopted for the house’s most prestigious cognacs. This particular “Très Vieille Age Inconnu” bottling is considered a precursor to the modern Louis XIII in terms of both presentation and spirit profile.
The liquid inside is a blend of eaux-de-vie aged for many decades, highlighting the finesse of Grande Champagne. Expect aromas of dried fig, rancio, sandalwood, cigar box, and honey, with a palate that unfolds in layers of spice, leather, candied fruit, and oak polish. The finish is long and elegant, showing the unmistakable signature of extensively matured cognac.
