Old Grand Dad 114 Old Grand Dad 114 Barrel Proof
Description
Old Grand-Dad 114 Barrel Proof Bourbon Whiskey
This bold Kentucky straight bourbon, known as Old Grand-Dad 114, is bottled at 114 proof (57% ABV). The “114” expression sits at the high end of the Old Grand-Dad line and is celebrated for its full flavor and fearless presence.
The mash bill includes a high proportion of rye, contributing strong spicy character that distinguishes it from lower-proof versions. While the bourbon does not carry a stated age, many bottles in older “Lot” editions are believed to be blends of barrels aged around 10-12 years or more, giving rise to deeper oak, rich caramel, and old-wood tones.
The bourbon is distilled and bottled by Beam Suntory at the Jim Beam distillery in Clermont, Kentucky. Its packaging sometimes includes a barrel proof or “Lot” edition label, which reveals batch details and old branding styles from before and after several ownership transitions. The bottle typically features classic branding with the face of Basil Hayden Sr., whose legacy the brand honors.
Tasting profile:
Aroma opens with dried fruit, spiced oak, caramel sugars, and vanilla. Palate delivers intense rye spice, leather, tobacco, and toasted oak char, balanced by molasses, dark sugar, and a sharp peppery warmth. Finish is long, warming, with lingering spiced oak and a bold character that reflects the high proof strength.
Collectability & character:
The 114 version is prized for standing out among Old Grand-Dad offerings: higher proof, richer flavor, and a strong heritage connection. Lots from “Lot 17” or similar are especially sought after, especially those preserving pre-ownership change features or original design elements. Ideal for those who appreciate robust bourbons with history and character.
