Description

A truly exceptional offering from a historic, family-run estate, the Remi Landier Très Vieux Du Chai des Pers is a masterful expression of Grande Champagne cognac. Sourced from the most prestigious cru of the Cognac region, this spirit is a testament to generations of savoir-faire and a deep connection to the terroir. The Landier family has been cultivating vines and distilling exquisite eaux-de-vie since 1890, initially supplying larger houses before releasing cognacs under their own name.

This "Très Vieux" cognac represents one of the oldest and most precious treasures from the family's private reserves. Distilled by Rémi Landier himself over four and a half decades ago, it is crafted from a very small and exceptionally rare harvest. The name "Du Chai des Pers" itself evokes a sense of history, referencing the "cellar of the Fathers" and the ancestral know-how passed down through the generations. The estate's history is deeply intertwined with the Benedictine monks who first cultivated the land, a heritage the Landier family continues to honor.

The eaux-de-vie are distilled from Ugni Blanc grapes grown on the distinctive clay-limestone soils of Grande Champagne, which impart a unique aromatic richness. Following traditional methods, the distillation is conducted in classic copper stills to preserve the delicate aromas. The long maturation, exceeding 40 years in French oak barrels, allows the cognac to develop its remarkable complexity and elegance without an overpowering woody presence.

Tasting Profile:

Presented in an elegant bottle, often featuring a wire-netted cage and a classic cork and capsule closure, this cognac has an old gold color with shimmering golden highlights. The nose is incredibly complex and captivating, opening with notes of mango, saffron, nectarine, and sage, evolving into a floral bouquet of rose and violet with a hint of minty freshness. The palate is velvety and rich, dominated by summer and exotic fruits like apricot, melon, papaya, and guava, beautifully balanced with spice and dense herbaceous notes. The finish is exceptionally long, fresh, and spicy.

A rare and highly collectible release, the Remi Landier Très Vieux Du Chai des Pers is a journey into the heart of Grande Champagne and a tribute to the artisanal craft of a distinguished cognac family.

Visual elements:

The bottle features a unique hexagonal/multi-faceted body wrapped in a white mesh net. The neck is sealed with a golden wax-like material, and a thin gold chain is draped around it. A rectangular hanging tag, with a clipped top-left corner, is tied to the neck with a gold string. The tag includes a small circular emblem at the top right with "PAS" and decorative elements. Font styles vary: "REMI LANDIER" is in a classic serif, "COGNAC" and address details are in sans-serif, and "Très Vieux" is in an elegant cursive script. The bottle is presented in a wooden box with a cream/satin lining.

Fill level estimate:

well above shoulder (very good), visible air gap above the liquid but the level is high within the tapering neck.
