Description
Rémy Martin XO Special: A 1990s Fine Champagne Legacy
This exquisite decanter represents a highly sought-after bottling of Rémy Martin XO Special, dating from the 1990s. A true collector's piece, this expression captures a specific era in the illustrious history of the House of Rémy Martin, founded in 1724. This bottling predates later branding updates, offering a glimpse into the celebrated XO blend as it was enjoyed decades ago.
As a Fine Champagne Cognac, this spirit adheres to the highest standards of production. The designation is a legally protected appellation, certifying that the blend consists exclusively of eaux-de-vie from the two most prestigious crus of Cognac: Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne. With a minimum of 50% sourced from Grande Champagne, this XO Special embodies the aromatic complexity and exceptional aging potential for which these terroirs are renowned.
The XO Special was first crafted in 1981 by the talented Cellar Master André Giraud and is a masterful blend of up to 400 different eaux-de-vie. This 1990s edition is presented in the iconic solar-shaped, fluted decanter, a signature of the house that is immediately recognizable to connoisseurs worldwide. Its timeless design and the quality of the spirit within make it a centerpiece of any serious collection.
Owning this bottle is more than an acquisition of fine cognac; it is an embrace of history. As a discontinued presentation, it stands as a testament to the brand's enduring legacy and blending philosophy of the time, making it a rare and distinguished find for enthusiasts and collectors alike.
Product Information
The front of the decanter features a classic oval label with the words FINE CHAMPAGNE COGNAC and REMY MARTIN XO SPECIAL elegantly displayed. The neck is adorned with a circular band repeating "FINE CHAMPAGNE COGNAC." The circular back label provides a "CERTIFICAT D'ORIGINE," affirming the cognac's prestigious origins and its right to the "FINE CHAMPAGNE COGNAC" appellation. It is signed by E. Rémy Martin & C° and marked with the unique identifier CARAFE Nº GB5252.
Symbolic visual elements enrich the presentation. The iconic golden centaur emblem is prominently featured on the front label, embossed on the capsule top, and appears within a small seal on the back label. Golden laurel wreaths frame the centaur and the "SPECIAL" text, signifying excellence. The bottle itself is a work of art, with its distinctive fluted glass design. The presentation is completed by the original red marbled box, featuring golden graphics that echo the bottle's regal aesthetic. The typography is a sophisticated mix of serif, sans-serif, and cursive script styles, adding to its classic appeal.
This collector's item is in excellent condition. The fill level is very good, resting well above the shoulder of the bottle, which indicates proper cellaring and minimal evaporation over the years.
