Description
Trump Super Premium Vodka – better known simply as Trump Vodka – is a luxury spirit with a fascinating rise and fall. Launched in 2005 in the United States through a partnership between the Trump Organization and Drinks Americas, the vodka carried the confident slogan “Success Distilled” and was positioned to compete directly with top-shelf brands like Grey Goose. It was initially produced in the Netherlands and later in Germany, crafted from high-quality European wheat, distilled five times for purity, and rested for six months in stainless steel tanks to achieve a smooth, clean profile. The striking tall bottle, designed by Bruni Glass with gold accents and architectural lines, was inspired by Trump’s skyscrapers and was intended to signal wealth, luxury, and prestige.
The early years of Trump Vodka were filled with high expectations. In 2007, a major export deal was signed to ship 50,000 cases annually to Russia, and the “Trump & Tonic” cocktail was heavily promoted as the next big trend in American bars. Lavish launch events, celebrity endorsements, and aggressive marketing built initial buzz. Yet despite the glitzy image, sales failed to match the ambition. Market competition, high production costs, and limited consumer adoption slowed momentum. By 2011, Trump Super Premium Vodka was discontinued in the U.S., with legal disputes over unpaid invoices and royalties adding to the brand’s challenges.
The most surprising aspect of the brand’s story is the fact that Donald Trump himself has never consumed alcohol. His decision to abstain dates back to the tragic loss of his brother, Fred Trump Jr., to alcoholism. In interviews, Trump stated that profits from Trump Vodka would be directed toward funding research on alcoholism, making the venture more of a brand and marketing exercise than a personal passion for spirits.
Even after disappearing from American shelves, Trump Vodka found a second life in Israel. There, a potato-based version was developed to make the spirit kosher for Passover, which gave it seasonal appeal. Despite some controversy in 2013 when certain batches were found to contain chametz (fermented grain) and thus were unsuitable for Passover, the brand continues to have a niche presence. Exclusive distribution rights in Israel remain with importer H. Pixel, ensuring its ongoing if limited production.
Today, Trump Super Premium Vodka is regarded as a collectible item among brand enthusiasts and spirits collectors. Its gleaming gold bottle and bold marketing campaigns remain a symbol of an ambitious, short-lived attempt to translate the Trump brand into the world of ultra-premium vodka — a drink that the man behind the name would never actually drink himself.
