Description
Rémy Martin Louis XIII Grande Champagne Cognac – Gold Neck Edition is a rare and collectible release dating from the late 1980s. This version is instantly recognizable by its elegant gold-plated neck collar and its luxurious red leather-style presentation case decorated with gold fleur-de-lys motifs. The set includes a satin-lined interior, the Baccarat crystal decanter, the fleur-de-lys crystal stopper, and a matching crystal tasting glass.
First created in 1874, Louis XIII is Rémy Martin’s most prestigious cognac, blended exclusively from eaux-de-vie sourced from the Grande Champagne cru, the Premier Cru of Cognac. The blend contains up to 1,200 eaux-de-vie aged between 40 and 100 years in centuries-old Limousin oak tierçons, producing extraordinary depth and complexity.
The Baccarat crystal decanter is based on a 16th-century flask discovered on the battlefield of Jarnac in 1569. Adorned with raised fleur-de-lys medallions and intricate detailing, the gold neck variant is especially prized among collectors for its distinctive style and short production period.
On the nose, Louis XIII reveals a complex bouquet of dried fruits, honey, saffron, cigar box, sandalwood, and floral undertones. The palate is rich and layered, with an evolving flavor profile and a finish that can last for more than an hour, embodying the artistry and heritage of Grande Champagne cognac.
This example, complete with intact seal, pristine crystal, and full presentation set, stands as both an exceptional tasting experience and a highly desirable collector’s piece from a unique era in Louis XIII’s history.
