Description
A truly exceptional and highly collectible bottling of Martell Cordon Bleu, this edition dates from the 1980s and represents a distinct era in the presentation of this legendary Cognac. For a limited period, Martell departed from its traditional clear glass, offering its flagship cuvée in this elegant, frosted green bottle, making it a rare find for connoisseurs and collectors alike.
This bottle is a snapshot of history from the esteemed House of Martell, the oldest of the great Cognac houses, founded in 1715. The Cordon Bleu expression itself was created in 1912 by Edouard Martell, and has long been celebrated for its distinctive character, shaped by a significant proportion of eaux-de-vie from the smallest and most sought-after cru, the Borderies.
Inside this vintage vessel is the timeless Cordon Bleu blend: a masterful composition of over one hundred eaux-de-vie, aged for a minimum of 10 to 25 years in fine-grained oak casks. The influence of the Borderies terroir imparts a signature floral bouquet, with notes of violet and iris, beautifully interwoven with candied fruit, gingerbread, and toasted almonds.
Notable features of this 1980s edition include:
- The distinctive tapered bottle shape characteristic of the era.
- Rare frosted green glass, a departure from the classic clear bottle.
- The classic cream and blue labeling, preserved in remarkable condition.
- A 70cl format, sealed with a traditional driven cork and foil capsule, securing a spirit of unquestionable heritage.
This is more than just a bottle of fine Cognac; it is a piece of Martell's enduring legacy. A testament to a specific decade of production, its rarity and unique presentation make it a prized acquisition for any serious spirit collection, offering a taste of a bygone era of French elegance and craftsmanship.
