- Text on label:
- 1) Text on label: Main Bottle Label: GRANDE FINE CHAMPAGNE LOUIS XIII BRAND Rarext Reserve Produce 4/5 Quart of France 80 Proof Distilled and Bottled by E. REMY MARTIN & Co - Cognac France ESTABLISHED 1724 PRINTED IN FRANCE Neck Label: Rémy Martin Cognac Hang Tag: This Cognac decanter is an exact replica of a flask that used to be found on the battle which was fought at JARNAC in 1569 during the religious wars bet- ween the Catholics and the Protestants. The Royal Catholic Ar- my was commanded by the Duke of ANJOU, brother of King CHARLES IX and later brought to ascend the throne as King HENRI III. The Protestants were also led by member of the royal family, the Prince of CONDÉ, who was unfortunately lost during the engagement. Both Generals had the "Fleur de Lys" emblem in their arms, so the appearance of this emblem on the decanter does not show an allegiance to which of them it belonged at the origin of this bottle. E. REMY MARTIN (Monsieur REMY MARTIN, the last Century) when riding over the ancient battlefield, met a peasant who while working had just brought to light the flask and two pistols. He at once acquired them and had the flask copied to serve as a container for the Cognac which was then selling to the Courts of Central Europe (Austria- Hungary, Bavaria, Baden, Hamburg, Breslau, Dantzig). Printed in France. Capsule Top (Circular text): REMY MARTIN COGNAC Capsule Top (Strip label): BOTTLE SERIES STAMP Outer Box (bottom right corner): REMY MARTIN COGNAC Coin Medallion (hanging from box lid): REMY MARTIN COGNAC 2) Visual elements: Bottle: Clear glass decanter with a flattened, round body and prominent fluting/ridges around the perimeter, resembling a seashell.
